Revive…to activate, set in motion, or take up again, to make operative, to quicken, or renew in the mind, to reanimate or cheer…
Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?
Psalm 85:6
Revive: Discipling
Revive…to activate, set in motion, or take up again, to make operative, to quicken, or renew in the mind, to reanimate or cheer…
Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?
Psalm 85:6
How does something endure?
A song, a book, a restaurant, a family legacy, a business, a church, a rumor, an urban legend, a city, a community, a nation, a school…
When Jesus says, “Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear,” [Matthew 24:35] He echoes the word of the prophet Isaiah, “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” [Isaiah 40:8] Jesus promises that His Word will endure. In the end, it will be THE only thing that endures.
A musing, and a method.
a musing: wondering about
If these are true declarations concerning the eternity of God’s Word, (and I know they are) why do humans invest so much in the temporal and so little in the eternal? Asked another way, why do we give so little attention to the Word of God?
a method: the way of doing something
One of the primary ways God ensures that His Word will never disappear is that He will have people in every generation who love Him, His mission and His Word share it with others.
“There is no faster or more cost-effective way for an idea, a fashion or a rumor to spread than from person to person and group to group.” Steve Addison, Movements That Change The World: Five Keys to Spreading the Gospel (Downers Grove: InterVarsityPress, 2011), pg. 83.
Throughout the month of March, we will be discovering how the Word of God has endured for generations. Through the biblical characters listed below, we will see how God has used friendships, surprise encounters, family lineage, and mentoring to expand and extend His Word & mission.
The discipling relationship is the core of this enduring legacy, and we have been invited to continue that legacy!
- March 6th, Elijah & Elisha
- March 13th, Ananias, the disciples & Saul
- March 20th, Lois, Eunice & Timothy
- March 27th, Paul & Timothy
As you take a quick glance at the table of characters, are there any of their stories that you have not heard? Which ones are you excited to dive into?
Let’s pray for a disciple-making revival!
