Sophie: Hello! This is Sophie and Morgan and we would like to tell you about how we saw love in action on our recent mission trip.
Sophie: To start I would love to ask how you thought the whole experience went for you, Morgan. I know I am tired from all we did and readjusting to normal life has been weird. Even just taking a shower without a time limit and without shoes feels almost wrong!
Morgan: The experience was quite eye opening, I learned a lot about culture and how others live, as well as many of the kids’ family situations. I’m extremely grateful to be back home with air conditioning and fresh fruits and veggies, but I truly feel for the kids that don’t have that ever.
Sophie: Yeah, there are so many things that I am so grateful for now that I’m back and it’s really enlightened me on all that we have.
One of my favorite parts of a mission trip is all the bonds we get to strengthen and make from spending so much time together and this mission trip we had a few new faces in our group. What was it like for you to show God’s love to those new and familiar faces on this trip?
Morgan: Showing and experiencing God’s love on this trip was actually very easy, I poured my heart into the kids I met at camp and created good conversation with the new youth in our group. I found God’s love being shown through all of the youth in our group, each and every single person showed love to all the kids at camp and helped them have an amazing week! Sophie: Part of the Church’s group went to a construction site to help re-side a house, but we were in the group that helped with a horse and pony camp for the youth of Eagle Butte. The camp was run by some leaders of the episcopal churches on the reservation, and they were all about showing God’s love to these children who might not get much at home.
Love in action to me means selflessness. We were tired and couldn’t match the energy of the many children we were tasked to entertain, but yet we did. We pushed through and worked hard for these kids. When we thought we needed control and had the answers, we gave up that control to let the kids be kids. Even when we got back from a hard day’s work and were at the end of our ropes, we pushed through and at least treated each other with as much love as we could. It is all about showing the unending love of God by serving others with empathy and grace. Morgan: To me love in action means unending kindness. No matter the circumstance, show God’s love. Something that stuck out to me during worship one of the nights was when one of the leaders said, “Love like you want to be loved.” It’s like the golden rule! So even when I was exhausted or hungry or just wanting to sit down, I said yes to playing games with the kids, I said yes to coloring, and I said yes to go jump on the trampoline. That’s what it means to love like God, pouring out kindness and love, no matter what.
Sophie: I hope that you can continue to show your love in action!
Morgan: And remember to always Love Like God!
